Site for sharing niche websites without javascript (15)

Hey w2ch, I wrote a php script for sharing sites. It uses a sqlite database. Basically, it's a big list with subcategories for different kinds of sites. To add a site, it has to not be behind Cloudflare or anubis, and must not require Javascript to access any feature. Also, imageboards are banned because weirdos are always creating new imageboard sites and then taking them down for no reason. (There's two people who LOVE doing this for some reason and have been doing it for years, but I won't name them because they need to get a life) Also Tor hidden services are banned just cause I wanna avoid the stigma. However I might revise that.
You can also add stuff that isn't http, like xmpp MUC rooms, irc, doom servers or anything that has a URI.
My motivation for making this was that I felt like there's hardly any resource for cool Web 1.0/2.0 esque websites that you can comfortably browse from a non-Firefox/Chrome browser. And also, when you setup one of these sites, it's hard to get traffic without shilling everywhere and being a nusiance.
Anyhow, is this even a good idea? I added a captcha, so it's not likely that it'll be botted, but I feel like people might not take it seriously. I was thinking about advertising it on 4chan /g/, but they're a bunch of shitheads who would probably just miss the point and call it nostalgia pandering or something.
Please tell me what you guys think. Also, apropos of nothing, I was gonna call it SiteShare but I think that name sucks so feel free to reccomend better ones.

You might already know about them, but here are 2 such resources:
http://wiby.me/
http://oldavista.com/

However, wiby is a search engine rather than a directory, and Old'aVista doesn't allow for new sites to be submitted, so I think your idea would fill that gap nicely

You've heard of wiby.me I'm sure, but this is probably different. Isn't this more suited for UNIX?

I knew about Wiby but not Oldavista. Oldavista kinda looks like what I'm going for except I want it to be a lot more linear and spur of the moment, like every time you visit you'll see the newest sites bumped to the top of the list. Also I wanna add comments so that people can leave remarks about sites that get added.

Here's what it looks like right now.

I'm not sure what you mean, but if you mean that it will probably draw in privacy minded people who use unixlikes then yeah.

Will Wayback Machine links be allowed? They aren't as many resources for finding those, wiby doesn't allow them for example.
Perhaps they could be segregated from the other links, or have an (archived) disclaimer beside them

I don't see why not, I had mostly live websites in mind but I guess there are plenty of archived sites worth bringing to people's attention. From what I recall the wayback machine doesn't play too well with no JS but for linking single pages it should be fine. It'd go into it's own category, of course.

And about Wiby, I like its goals but I kinda hate how everything has to be vetted. Like I want people to be able to submit their site and see it on the list right away so that people are encouraged to engage with the culture.

The javascript isn't inserted if you append "if_" to the date, for example: http://web.archive.org/web/20250712101129if_/https://piza.world2ch.net/lounge/
It could easily be added to the URL automatically with regex

I didn't know about that, thanks. I'll add it now

So, you're essentially creating a niche reddit-like system, but without JS, votes, and user accounts. Correct?

Maybe you could set up something like a federated link aggregator and make a heavily customized frontend to it? I'd use such a service.

An alternative to Lemmy and piefed that doesn't suck.

I did something similar on my old board, and it's really great that someone is making a site like this.
Feel free to share the link here, I'd be interested in using it.

I'm also currently working on a link sharing site which is an evolution of what I made on my old website.
Its use will probably be different from yours.
And I'm really glad I'm not the only one frustrated by the limited number of options available for finding new sites.

Not really, except in the sense that you can share links. I'm not sure if I wanna implement comments yet. I wanna make it somewhat interactive but not geared torwards anything that might make the experience negative like useless slapfights.

I'll have it done soon, I just gotta rewrite some of the more hastily written php and add some more polish. I'll post when I'm finished which will be either today or very soon.
>>12
Cool, I'll give it a look when you finish

No not yet. I'm just running PHP's built in server. But I have my own VPS and domain.
