My favorite anime are Evangelion, Utena and Zeta Gundam. I prefer traditionally animated shows.

2 Name: Nameless : 2025/07/25 10:01

Traditionally animated? So woodblock prints?

3 Name: Nameless : 2025/07/25 10:16

I may get laughed at for saying this, but Yu-Gi-Oh!, the original series only.
Kaiba's voice actor is the only reason I say this it's worth watching

if that's your top 3 there, you should probably watch Ideon if you haven't

otherwise, I was gonna say go watch Cyber Formula, very cool Sunrise racing anime
the OVAs have RACING NEWTYPES lol

Death Note is good

MisaMisa is so kawaii =w=

7 Name: Nameless : 2025/07/26 01:28

I wouldn't consider Death Note and Yugioh to be "traditionally animated" in the sense >>1 means.

8 Name: Nameless : 2025/07/26 02:09

If you like space and science fiction, I recommend Macross/Super Dimension Fortress Macross

How does Macross Frontier compare?

Never watched it.

Akira is pretty good.

I usually find cel animated anime to look better and be more "cinematic", but that doesn't mean I'm not willing to watch a digital one if I like the premise.

You can watch GaoGaiGar, it has mecha and great animation but the plot is hard to follow.

14 Name: Nameless : 2025/07/29 00:39

Ah, I still need to watch GaoGaiGar... ( ´ω`)

15 Name: Nameless : 2025/07/29 02:46

Initial D was fun, Cooking in Another World With my Absurd Skill is my guilty pleasure and it's getting a season 2.

16 Name: Nameless : 2025/07/29 02:59

The robots in GaoGaiGar being sentient made it feel a bit too much like Transformers for my taste (;´Д`)

Girls Last Tour is very good, OP. It's about two cute girls roaming around a weird post-apocalyptic environment full of snow and large cities (think similar to the manga Blame! which had these massive superstructures). There's no specific plot, very few characters, kinda melancholic but it's such a cozy, happy series.

I've seen it referenced a lot, but never watched it. I think I should get on that

Fuck it. >>8 is right. Everyone needs to watch SDF Macross.

It's amazing. It's stupid. It's cool. It's dramatic. It's melodramatic. It's exciting. It's baffling. It will make you feel the full spectrum of human emotion, because it is basically a goddamn soap opera in space with fighter jet robots and giants.

It's a fantastic show, even if the troubled production means that a: there are like 3 episodes that are comically ugly (there is one episode that seems to not have had any tweening frames drawn for most of it), and b: there is an episode before the actual end that 100% feels like it was supposed to be the last episode and then the had to keep going. You will recognize it, especially because the budget goes through the roof, it looks way better than the rest of the show.

Also, watch the movie, but after the show - it is flat out GORGEOUS, but also it kinda sorta isn't what canonically happened and doesn't tell the whole story, even if flashbacks later in the franchise use footage from it because it's way better looking than the show ever was.

I still wish that show was a full 50-or-so episodes.

I wasn't sure if if this belongs in the theatre thread because this is technically a movie, but I'm referring it to you as an anime.
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust epitomizes the idea of "cool". If you like Hellsing, it is somewhat similar:
