There are so many different BBS cultures, different ones for almost every site, so I think as long as there are new sites popping up there will be new cultures.
browsing altchans before and after 4cuck dying was interesting, between site to site the cultures varied a lot, some were chill but a lot are just full of nonsensical shitposts because theyre not active enough for real discussion
most internet users are wary of imageboards or anything that's similar to The Hacker known as 4cunt so i imagine they're going to be a niche for a long time. altchans are cosy though and i hope people continue making them
Imageboards and textboards used to be more diverse. These days they all feel like 4chan clones with exactly same boards and /pol/ adjacent users. Like everyone has an /a/ board or a /jp/ board or /pol/. I wanna see a board for kaiju movies or chanbara board or something different.
>>11 everyone ends up with the same boards because niche topics will be lucky to get 1 post per month on an already niche site so everyone leans into the same few common topics so they can maybe achieve 1 post per day lol
It's never dying completely but it peaked some time ago. Moot leaving 4chan was the sign I needed to free myself of that website, barring occasional nostalgia visits
