>>26People confuse scary with shocking. If it doesn't make you jump, its not scary. Well the Shining is scarier than those jump scare movies because its frightening on a conceptual level. Imagine being isolated out in the wilderness in a snow storm. Your shelter is the only source of safety right? But the hotel in the Shining is an evil entity that feasts on people. It slowly wears you down mentally, sucking the life out of you, makes you do something you think you never would. So you are stuck between freezing to death outside or going insane inside. This general concept is kinda shit in the book but Kubrick really made it work on screen.
